On the UEH side, the working session was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bùi Quang Hùng - President of UEH; Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Khắc Quốc Bảo - Vice President of UEH; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Khánh Nam - Head of the Department of Research, Development and Global Engagement (RDGE); MSc. Huỳnh Thúc Định - Director of the UEH Institute of Languages and International Studies; and other members of the delegation.
On the side of the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. ONO Masuo - Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City chaired the reception, together with the Consuls in charge of education and economic - trade affairs.
At the meeting, UEH leaders introduced the University’s nearly 50-year development journey, its strategic orientations and vision for the new period, working towards a multidisciplinary, multi-sector university model with enhanced academic reputation and international integration. Within this, UEH has identified expanding its network of strategic partners as one of its key priorities, with Japan seen as a partner of great potential in education, research, student exchange, human resource development and university - business connections.
As part of the working session, UEH shared with the Consul General the cooperation activities currently under way with Japanese universities, businesses and organizations in student exchange, academic and cultural exchange, international experiences, internships and human resource development. At the same time, the University is working to expand its partner network in Japan, promote faculty exchange and research collaboration, organize academic programmes and strengthen university - business - community connections.
UEH leaders also shared information about the official working trip of the UEH delegation to Japan, expected to take place in early October 2026, to continue meeting partners, expand the cooperation network and give concrete shape to the directions for UEH - Japan connections.
In his exchange with the UEH delegation, Mr. ONO Masuo - Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City expressed his interest in UEH’s development and the international cooperation activities the University is carrying out.
Building on what UEH had shared, the Consul General and members of both sides discussed a number of potential areas of cooperation in education, human resource development and economic - business connections.
In education, the two sides discussed the possibility of strengthening UEH’s connections with Japanese universities, educational organizations and related networks, thereby expanding opportunities for academic exchange, student exchange and human resource development between the two countries.
In addition, the possibility of connecting UEH with the community of Vietnamese alumni who have studied in Japan was also raised. With their study and work experience and their understanding of both cultures, this community can serve as a practical bridge for educational, cultural and professional exchange activities and for cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese organizations.
In the economic and trade field, the two sides discussed strengthening UEH’s connections with Japanese business associations and the Japanese business community in Vietnam. Through this, UEH can further expand its internship programmes, company visits, recruitment activities, professional knowledge sharing, applied research and knowledge transfer, strengthening the link between training and practice.
Consul General ONO Masuo expressed his interest in UEH’s activities and his wish for the two sides to continue their exchange and connection in order to identify suitable cooperation opportunities in the future.
The working session took place as UEH approaches the 50th anniversary of its establishment (1976-2026), marking a new stage of development in the University’s international integration strategy.
On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bùi Quang Hùng - President of UEH extended a formal invitation to Mr. ONO Masuo - Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City to attend the 50th Anniversary Ceremony of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City on 27 October 2026.
In response, Consul General ONO Masuo congratulated UEH on its 50-year milestone and wished the UEH delegation a successful working trip to Japan in early October 2026, opening up further opportunities for cooperation with Japanese universities, businesses and organizations.

The visit and working session at the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City further affirms UEH’s orientation towards expanding its international connections. The discussions at the meeting provide a basis for the two sides to gradually give concrete shape to cooperation programmes in education and academia, human resource development, and business and community engagement; thereby creating further opportunities for learning, research and international experience for students, while promoting Vietnam - Japan cooperation.
