New UEH Publications Alert (Week 4 – September 2026): Data Science as Infrastructure for Addressing Challenges from ASEAN Policy to Global Governance

Unlocking the Power of “Data-driven”: From Quantitative Finance to Agricultural Benchmarking

UEH’s empirical research capacity is undergoing a strong shift toward the era of big data, moving beyond traditional statistical frameworks:

  • - Financial Markets & Macroeconomic Uncertainty: For the first time, online behavioral data (Google Trends) has been leveraged by researchers to establish an index measuring socio-economic-environmental uncertainty at both the provincial and national levels in Vietnam. In parallel, Stacked Ensemble Learning has been successfully applied to a decade-long high-frequency dataset of the VN-30 basket to address noise and enhance stock market forecasting capabilities.
  • - Digital Agriculture & Value Chains: Studies have directly identified bottlenecks arising from fragmentation in Vietnam’s agricultural data architecture. In particular, examining farmers in the Mekong Delta through the lens of Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSSs) and the EVFTA has shown that factors related to sustainability standards, rice cultivation area, and participation in cooperatives are associated with the revenues of farming households.

The “Policy Nexus” Approach and a Global Governance Perspective

The University’s research has moved beyond isolated perspectives to address the interconnected nature of global challenges:

  • - ASEAN Green Transition: Rather than treating the issues separately, the research pioneers the integration of two objectives—“energy efficiency” and “climate resilience”—within a single decision-making framework. This approach provides additional scientific evidence for addressing energy transition challenges in ASEAN economies amid rising energy demand and increasingly evident climate risks.
  • - Governance of Scarce Public Goods: Drawing on cross-country data on COVID-19 vaccine distribution, the University has expanded the discussion to the governance and allocation of global health resources, while drawing lessons for governing scarce public goods in future crises.

The Ecosystem of Trust and Local Value Creation

At the intersection of behavioral science, marketing, and tourism, experts continue to decode the “hidden mechanisms” of markets:

  • - Sustainable Marketing: Research on brand transparency focuses on clarifying how brand transparency promotes socially conscious purchasing behavior, while examining the roles of brand social responsibility and consumers’ karmic beliefs.
  • - Community-Supported Agriculture: Research on organic farms operating under the Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) model focuses on enhancing urban consumer loyalty through social networking sites (SNSs), amid growing consumer interest in health and the environment.
  • - Tourism & Biodiversity: Reframing the relationship between tourism and biodiversity beyond management and conservation perspectives, the research approaches this relationship as a process negotiated through everyday social practices in protected areas.
  • - Value Creation in Tourism: Research on fashion tailoring experiences and destination branding focuses on the process of value co-creation through tourist experiences and social media communications, thereby clarifying the factors contributing to destination brand equity.

The Scope of a New-Generation Multidisciplinary University

The convergence of diverse methodologies from Machine Learning and search data mining to cross-country datasets and complex behavioral models demonstrates UEH’s broad and deep research capacity in an increasingly interconnected academic landscape. The University continues to affirm its mission of creating international knowledge and forging meaningful connections across economics, technology, the environment, and institutions to contribute to sustainable development trends in Vietnam and the region.
