UEH welcomes the university of Medicine and Pharmacy Ho Chi Minh City for an exchange on student support models and policies to attract international doctoral candidates

Overview of the meeting 

Representing UEH were Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Interim Head of the Department of Student Affairs (DSA); Assoc. Prof. Dinh Thi Thu Hong, Head of the Department of Training; Mr. Duong Minh Man, Head of the Human Resources and Organization Development Department; Assoc. Prof. Pham Duong Phuong Thao, Deputy Head of the Department of Research - Development and Global Engagement; Dr. Bui Quang Viet; Mr. Tran Thi Thuy Hai; Mr. Phan Lam Thao, Deputy Heads of the Department of Student Affairs; together with staff members responsible for related areas. 

Representing the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Ho Chi Minh City were Dr. Huynh Ho Ngoc Quynh, Head of the Department of Student Affairs; Mr. Pham Tuan Hiep, Deputy Head of the Department of Student Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Mai Phuong Thao, Head of the Department of Postgraduate Training, together with representatives from the Department of Student Affairs, the Department of International Relations, and the Department of Science, Training and External Relations. 

In his opening remarks, Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Interim Head of the Department of Student Affairs, expressed his pleasure at welcoming the delegation from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Ho Chi Minh City for a professional exchange. He noted that UEH, oriented toward becoming a multidisciplinary and sustainable university, has consistently focused on enhancing the learner experience by improving its governance model and learner support services. 

Since October 1, 2024, UEH has officially established the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) to professionalize learner support services across the entire university system. Through its centralized governance model, the DSA coordinates student support activities across UEH's member colleges and works closely with specialized units to ensure consistent service quality.

Representing the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Huynh Ho Ngoc Quynh, Head of the Department of Student Affairs, expressed her sincere appreciation for UEH's warm hospitality and for sharing valuable practical experiences. She greatly appreciated UEH's learner support model and expressed interest in learning more about the development and operation of the student support collaborator network, the academic advising model, and the software systems that strengthen learner engagement.

During the meeting, representatives from UEH introduced several key topics, including the organizational and management model for student affairs; the academic advisor network; the student support collaborator team; software systems and online communication channels; admission procedures for international students; policies to attract full-time doctoral candidates; support policies for international students; physical and mental healthcare models; as well as digital transformation initiatives and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in learner support services.

During the discussion session, representatives from both institutions shared practical experiences in organizing and operating learner support systems, applying technology in student management, and enhancing the quality of the student experience. 

The meeting was conducted in an open, constructive, and collaborative atmosphere, helping strengthen the partnership between UEH and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Ho Chi Minh City. It also opened up further opportunities for collaboration in learner support, digital transformation, and the development of student support policies in the coming period.
