UEH Welcomes the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the UK Skills Partnerships Delegation, Signs MOU with City St George's, University of London

On March 2, 2026, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) welcomed the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the UK Skills Partnerships delegation for a working visit, during which UEH signed an MOU with City St George's, University of London, to advance skills development cooperation and the internationalization of training.

The event was attended by Ms. Alexandra Smith – British Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Jonathan Ledger – UK Department for Business and Trade; Ms. Jane Rexworthy Whitehart – Chairwoman, UK Skills Partnership; Ms. Sionade Robinson – Vice-President, City St George's, University of London; along with representatives of professional organizations, international certification bodies, and education partners including ACCA, ICAEW, CII, CIPS, CISI, ABE UK, and Pearson Education.

From UEH, the working session was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung – UEH Interim President; Dr. Tran Anh Hoa – Vice Rector of UEH College of Business (COB); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Khanh Nam – Head of the Department of Research – Development and Global Engagement (RDGE); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duong Phuong Thao – Deputy Head of the RDGE; together with representatives from the leadership of Schools under COB.

The event contributed to strengthening education cooperation and skills development between Vietnam and the United Kingdom, while marking a new milestone in UEH's internationalization strategy and its efforts to enhance training quality.

Overview of the working session

Advancing Cooperation within the UK Skills Partnerships Framework

At the working session, both sides shared an overview of UK Skills Partnerships – an initiative to promote skills training cooperation, human resource development, and stronger connections between higher education institutions and the professional and business ecosystem.

In his welcoming remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung emphasized the role of higher education in equipping learners with adaptive competencies amid global volatility, particularly in the fields of finance, international trade, logistics, and sustainable development. In the context of Vietnam's accelerating green transition and deepening international integration, cooperation with United Kingdom partners – a nation with recognized strengths in internationally benchmarked education and prestigious professional certification systems – is viewed as a strategic opportunity for UEH to expand its international academic space, enhance training quality, and strengthen learner competitiveness.

Enhancing Faculty Capacity and Developing Internationally Accredited Training Programs

One of the key topics discussed was cooperation to enhance the capacity of UEH's faculty through professional development programs, academic exchanges, research co-supervision, and the development of curricula aligned with international standards.

Among these, green finance was identified as a long-term cooperation priority, with planned initiatives including: developing green finance skills training programs; promoting faculty and student exchanges; expanding research collaboration; and establishing progression pathways for UEH students to study in the United Kingdom through articulation, dual-degree, and joint-degree programs.

Additionally, the parties discussed the potential for integrating international professional certifications (ACCA, ICAEW, CII, CIPS, CISI) into training programs, aiming to standardize skills in accordance with international practices and enhance learner competitiveness. At the same time, partners expressed high regard for the potential of multilateral coordination to gradually build a green finance training ecosystem in Vietnam, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals and the national green growth strategy.

At the conclusion of the discussion, UEH and City St George's, University of London signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), laying the foundation for the implementation of specific activities in training, research, academic exchange, dual-degree program development, and the co-organization of international workshops and conferences.

The signing ceremony took place in a formal setting, witnessed by Ms. Alexandra Smith and the UK Skills Partnerships delegation, marking a long-term cooperation commitment between UEH and United Kingdom partners, while expanding opportunities for international learning, research, and career development for UEH faculty and students.
