UEH rose 307 places on the World Webometrics Ranking, in the Top 7 Best Universities in Vietnam

On February 1, 2023, the Spanish National Research Council announced the first Webometrics rankings in 2023, in which the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) rose 307 places on the World Rankings, holding the 60th position in Southeast Asia and the Top 7 of the best universities in Vietnam. This is a determined start to 2023 that promises many achievements on UEH's journey to becoming a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University.

Webometrics is a ranking of digital transformation capacity and international publication excellence based on the Scopus and Google Scholar databases of higher education institutions worldwide.

According to the results of the first Webometrics Ranking in 2023, UEH increased by 307 places compared to August 2022, ranked 1741 in the world, 60th in Southeast Asia, and the Top 7 best universities/ colleges in Vietnam (out of 184 Universities/ colleges participating in the ranking).

UEH increased 307 places on the World Webometrics Ranking, ranked 7th among the best universities in Vietnam

Webometrics maintains the same ranking criteria and methods as in previous years in this ranking period. Specifically, visibility has the highest weight 50% representing the influence of the website system and information published online; 40% weighted academic excellence or scholar measures the number of most cited articles, and 10% weighted transparency or openness, which measures Measure the number of citations of 310 leading authors of higher education institutions on the Google Scholar system.

Ranking results on Webometrics come from UEH's action strategies for each specific ranking index over the past time. In particular, the criterion of Visibility increased significantly thanks to the strategy of increasing the influence of UEH's online digital resource system for different audiences in the community through a network of more than 100 websites under the domain name ueh.edu.vn. Taking quality content as the base, each year, on average, more than 540 articles in various fields from training, multi-disciplinary research, scientific conferences, business connections, etc. have been edited and published and uploaded by UEH and spread to the community of scientists, researchers, organizations, businesses, and individuals to contribute practical initiatives, proposals, and solutions, associated with the needs of the times. As a result, the UEH website is currently rated as one of the most trusted websites by online users, has a high-ranking position among universities in Vietnam, and will attract nearly 6.4 million visitors in the year 2022.

The Excellence/Scholar Index of UEH is highly appreciated by the increase in both the quantity and quality of articles published in prestigious international journals of the University. In 2022, UEH published more than 500 articles in prestigious international journals in Web of Science, Scopus, and ABDC. Besides the increasing number of international publications, the quality of international publications is also increasingly improved. The Scopus database shows that: UEH has more than 85% of articles published in journals ranked in Q1 (top 25%) and Q2 (top 25%-50%) of Scopus. More than 80% of UEH's articles are published in journals belonging to prestigious international publishers recognized by the State Council of Professors, such as Springer, Elsevier, Emerald Wiley-Blackwell, Taylor and Francis, Sage, etc.

Similarly, the Transparency/Openness index related to UEH's academic spillover also increased. On average, in the period of 2019-2022, UEH had an average number of citations per article of 9.8 citations/article; in 2022, the average number of citations of a UEH paper is above 2.8 citations/article. In addition, the analysis results of UEH's international publications through the Scopus database also show that the influence coefficient of UEH's published citations in the period of 2019-2022 compared to other universities in the world at the same field of study (Field-weighted citation impact) is 2.2, and in 2022, it is 2.11, (significantly higher than the coefficient of 1.0 which is the world average).

Achieving these results is thanks to the correct direction of the University's leadership with policies to encourage and create conditions for lecturers and officials to make efforts to promote scientific research and international publication activities, improve the quality and quantity of articles in prestigious domestic and foreign scientific journals; actively participate in teaching activities, improve the quality of lectures; increasing the use of the school's online learning platforms and tools, sharing resources for research and learning, etc.

Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - President of UEH said: “With the strategy of becoming a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University with research orientation, over the past time, UEH collective has constantly been striving to improve the quality of teaching and academic research, international publication, knowledge dissemination to increase its impact on society. These strong efforts have once again helped UEH increase its position and rank on the Webometrics chart, becoming the leading prestigious educational institution in Vietnam and in the region. Continuing to maintain and promote this spirit, I firmly believe that UEH will continue to grow, continue to rank in the international arena, and increase its presence on prestigious rankings."

In 2022, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City has increased by 150 places, entering the top 401+ of the best universities in Asia according to the QS Asia University Rankings 2023 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), UK. UEH has officially achieved its central goal for the period 2020-2030 and moved closer in its strategy to become a research-oriented Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University with an academic reputation in Asia by 2030.
