The presence of Vietnamese universities on the global academic map has become increasingly prominent as Times Higher Education (THE) officially released its 2026 World University Rankings by Subject. Eleven Vietnamese higher education institutions were ranked in 9 out of 11 subject areas, with the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) continuing to maintain its leading role in the field of Business and Economics while making a notable advancement and taking the lead in the Social Sciences category.
According to THE's announcement, the subject areas in which Vietnamese universities were ranked this year include: Arts and Humanities; Business and Economics; Computer Science; Education; Engineering; Life Sciences; Clinical and Health; Physical Sciences; and Social Sciences. Within this landscape, UEH remains a standout representative for Vietnam in the core fields related to training, research, and socio-economic policy consulting.
In the Business and Economics subject area, UEH ranked in the 301-400 group globally, maintaining its top position among Vietnamese universities, consistent with the previous year's results. This is the field with long-standing tradition that has defined UEH's academic brand and serves as the foundation for the university's deep engagement in policymaking and its partnership with businesses and localities in the context of growth model transformation, innovation, and sustainable development.
Notably, in the Social Sciences subject area, UEH has risen 100 places, moving from the 501+ group to the Top 401+ globally, becoming the #1 university in Vietnam in this field. This result clearly reflects UEH's strategic orientation toward expanding into interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary fields, linking social sciences with economics, governance, public policy, urban studies, environment, and sustainable development—all critical issues for the nation and the region.
According to THE's classification, UEH's continued presence among the world's leading universities in these two pillar fields not only affirms the quality of its traditional training and research programs but also demonstrates the effectiveness of the Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University strategy that UEH is steadfastly pursuing. Building on this foundation, UEH is progressively launching new interdisciplinary programs such as ArtTech, MarTech, FinTech, LogTech, Biztech, Corporate Sustainability and Environmental Management, Data Analysis…, as well as new programs aligned with current trends in technology, engineering, applied design, and transportation services, including Smart City, Computer Science, Information Technology, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, ntelligent Control and Automation, Intelligent Manufacturing; Smart Mobility and Operations Management; Logistics Technology,…
THE Rankings by Subject are based on five groups of criteria: Teaching, Research environment, Research quality, Industry outcome, and International outlook. UEH's ability to maintain and improve its rankings in these key areas demonstrates the comprehensive quality of its strategies in training, research, and internationalization, while also affirming the university's academic integration capabilities in an increasingly competitive global context.
In recent years, UEH has continuously invested in quality assurance and accreditation in line with international standards. To date, UEH has 30 training programs accredited by FIBAA (Europe) and 7 programs accredited by AUN-QA (Southeast Asia), providing a solid foundation for learners to access an educational quality comparable to that of leading world universities right here in Vietnam.
The results of the 2026 THE Rankings by Subject are not only a recognition of UEH by the international academic community but also a contribution to affirming the pioneering role of Vietnamese universities in the process of integration, enhancing intellectual capacity, and contributing to the nation's sustainable development. For UEH, this is also a significant motivation to continue realizing its vision of becoming a multidisciplinary and sustainable university with a strong academic reputation in the region and the world.
