Conference "Ensuring Product Quality and Food Safety in Modern Retail Models" – Connecting Academia, Business, and Retail Industry Practice

In response to the 2026 Action Month for Food Safety, on May 6, 2026, the UEH College of Business, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology and Saigon Co.op, organized a Conference on "Ensuring Product Quality and Food Safety in Modern Retail Models." The program contributed to connecting academic knowledge, state management perspectives, and business practices, thereby enabling students to gain deeper insights into quality management, logistics, supply chains, and food safety issues in the modern retail industry.

The program took place at Hall B1.302 – 279 Nguyen Tri Phuong, Dien Hong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, attracting the participation of representatives from regulatory agencies, businesses, lecturers, and over 250 students interested in the fields of quality management, logistics, and supply chain management.

Representing the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology were Mr. Do Vu Khoa – Deputy Head of the Sub-department of Standards, Metrology and Quality Control; Mr. Do Thanh Dung – Deputy Head of the Sub-department of Standards, Metrology and Quality Control; and Mr. Duong Minh Duc – Specialist, Quality Management Division – Sub-department of Standards, Metrology and Quality Control.

Representing the UEH College of Business were Dr. Tran Anh Hoa – Vice Rector of UEH College of Business; Dr. Nguyen Tan Trung – Chief of Office of UEH College of Business; Dr. Dang Huu Phuc – Program Director of the Undergraduate Quality Management program; Dr. Hoang Thu Hang – Program Director of the Undergraduate Logistics and Supply Chain Management program, along with UEH lecturers and students.

Representing Saigon Co.op were Mr. Huynh Thanh Tuan – Director of the Quality Management Department; Mr. Do Quang Tien – Deputy Director of the Quality Management Department; and Ms. Dinh Thi Cam Linh – Deputy Director of the Quality Management Department.

In his opening speech, Dr. Tran Anh Hoa – Vice Rector of UEH College of Business emphasized: "In the context where modern retail models such as supermarkets, convenience stores, and e-commerce are developing strongly, ensuring product quality and food safety plays an increasingly important role for businesses and the community. This also affirms the University's role in accompanying businesses and regulatory agencies to promote practical solutions, contributing to enhancing the quality of human resources and developing a sustainable retail ecosystem."

In the thematic presentation session, Dr. Dang Huu Phuc – Program Director of the Undergraduate Quality Management program, UEH College of Business, shared the topic "The Role of Quality Management in Customer Experience and Satisfaction," focusing on quality management, customer experience, customer satisfaction, and approaches to quality management in food hygiene and safety management.

Continuing the program, Dr. Hoang Thu Hang – Program Director of the Undergraduate Logistics and Supply Chain Management program, UEH College of Business, presented the topic "Risk Management in Food Supply Chains: Why Supermarkets Must Control from Farm to Table," offering practical perspectives on supply chain management and risk control in the food industry, as well as presenting case studies from developed countries and the region such as Canada, Singapore, and Thailand for participants to reference and learn from their operational and development methods.

Representing the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, Mr. Do Vu Khoa – Deputy Head of the Sub-department of Standards, Metrology and Quality Control shared content related to the Law on Product and Goods Quality and the role of quality management in the field of food safety. Additionally, Mr. Duong Minh Duc – Specialist, Quality Management Division – Sub-department of Standards, Metrology and Quality Control also presented on the role of metrology in the food sector, helping students better understand technical standards and inspection practices.

From the business perspective, Mr. Do Quang Tien – Deputy Director of the Quality Management Department of Saigon Co.op shared insights on ensuring product quality and food hygiene and safety in modern retail models, while introducing how the retail system controls quality throughout the supply chain to ensure safe products reach consumers.

Following the presentations, the program dedicated a session for direct exchange and Q&A between students and the speakers. Many questions revolving around quality management, food supply chain control, and career requirements in the modern retail sector were raised and addressed by experts, providing practical and multi-dimensional perspectives for attending students.

Through the conference, the UEH College of Business continues to affirm its orientation of linking training with practice, strengthening cooperation with businesses and regulatory agencies to improve training quality. At the same time, the program contributes to equipping students with knowledge and practical perspectives on food safety, sustainable consumption, and social responsibility, thereby enhancing their professional competencies and civic awareness. The conference also spreads awareness in the community about the importance of food safety, consumer health, and sustainable development in the current context.
