Workshop on Applied Mathematics 2026: Advancing International Academic Collaboration and Applied Mathematics Research at UEH

On 20-21 July 2026, the Workshop on Applied Mathematics 2026: Partial Differential Equations, Stochastic Control and Machine Learning, co-organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics and the Institute of Applied Mathematics under the UEH College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG), was held at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH). The workshop brought together leading researchers from prestigious universities and research institutes around the world to exchange the latest research findings, strengthen international collaboration, and foster interdisciplinary research in the field of Applied Mathematics.

Overview of the workshop

In his opening remarks, Dr. Dinh Cong Khai, Vice President of UEH, emphasized the increasingly important role of Applied Mathematics in addressing real-world challenges arising from the digital economy, artificial intelligence, data science, and quantitative finance. He also reaffirmed UEH's commitment to expanding its international collaboration network and creating a supportive environment where researchers can share knowledge, develop joint research projects, and enhance the quality of education and research in line with the University's multidisciplinary and internationally integrated development strategy.

With the participation of scholars from leading universities and research institutions, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison (United States), University of Southampton (United Kingdom), National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Münster, Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems (Germany), Seoul National University of Science and Technology (South Korea), along with numerous universities and research institutions across Vietnam - the workshop attracted a large number of researchers, faculty members, doctoral candidates, graduate students, and undergraduate students, creating a vibrant academic forum for knowledge exchange and networking within the Applied Mathematics research community.

Over the two-day event, the workshop featured 13 scientific presentations covering advanced research topics, including partial differential equations, stochastic control, optimization, quantitative finance, machine learning, artificial intelligence, foundation models, reinforcement learning, and modern optimization algorithms. These presentations not only showcased the latest research developments but also opened new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration among Mathematics, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.

Scientific presentation sessions introduced emerging research trends in Applied Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science

In addition to the presentation sessions, the Poster Session provided an opportunity for early-career researchers to present their work and engage in discussions with international experts. To recognize outstanding research and encourage innovation, the Scientific Committee and Organizing Committee presented one First Prize, one Second Prize, and two Third Prizes to the best poster presentations.

Alongside the academic program, networking activities such as the Welcome Dinner and Field Trip further strengthened connections among researchers, expanded research collaboration networks, and laid the groundwork for future joint projects. These activities also offered international delegates an opportunity to gain deeper insights into Vietnam's academic environment, culture, and people, thereby fostering long-term partnerships between UEH and its international collaborators.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Chung Nhan Phu, Director of the Institute of Applied Mathematics, UEH, expressed his sincere appreciation to all keynote speakers, delegates, researchers, students, and members of the Organizing Committee for contributing to the success of the workshop. He also expressed his hope that the connections established during the event would continue to grow, leading to future joint research projects, academic exchange programs, and international collaborative initiatives.
