University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) exchanges experiences with the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) on university governance

On the afternoon of July 7, 2026, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) welcomed and held a working session with the delegation of the University of Transport and Communications (UTC), focusing on topics related to the autonomy mechanism, university governance, the development of a scientific research ecosystem, the internationalization of education, and cooperation directions between the two institutions in the new phase of development.

Attending the working session, on the side of the University of Transport and Communications (UTC), were Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Hung - President of UTC, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Chuong - Vice President of UTC; Assoc. Prof. Le Hoai Duc - Vice President of UTC, together with representatives of the leadership of the University's functional units and branch campuses.

Welcoming and working with the delegation, on the side of UEH were Assoc. Prof. Bui Quang Hung - President of UEH; Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Vice President of UEH; Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Chairwoman of the UEH Alumni Executive Board; Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the JABES Journal; Assoc. Prof. Trinh Thuy Anh - Rector of the UEH College of Technology and Design; together with representatives of the leadership of UEH's departments and affiliated units.

Overview of the working session

Speaking at the working session, Assoc. Prof. Bui Quang Hung - President of UEH extended a welcome to the working delegation from the University of Transport and Communications, and affirmed that this was an opportunity for the two sides to strengthen the exchange of governance experience and develop strategic cooperation directions. As UEH expands its research and training in smart transportation in a direction that integrates economics, technology, and sustainable development, UEH expressed its wish to work with UTC to implement training and research programs and connect with international partners, gradually forming a cooperation network in key fields prioritized by the State, such as transportation and aviation.

On behalf of the University of Transport and Communications, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Hung - President of UTC expressed his appreciation for UEH's welcome and highly valued the achievements UEH has attained in building a model of university autonomy, modern governance, and international integration. He expressed hope that the working session would help UTC gain more practical experience in university governance, digital transformation, data science, and innovation, to support its transition to a higher level of autonomy.

At the working session, UEH shared its experience in university governance across many aspects, reflecting the University's process of transformation and refinement of its governance model over the years. The content shared and discussed focused on key areas such as the mechanism for autonomy and university governance; developing the scientific research ecosystem and scientific journals; internationalization of higher education; building strategy, data governance, and improving standing in university rankings; as well as cooperation directions in training, scientific research, innovation, and high-quality human resource development.

In addition, the University of Transport and Communications delegation was also interested in UEH's experience in transitioning to a higher level of autonomy, including building a long-term financial strategy, designing a data governance system, budget allocation mechanisms, evaluation/KPI systems, and solutions to improve governance effectiveness in the context of a multidisciplinary university.

The working session took place in an open and substantive atmosphere, strengthening the connection between the two higher education institutions and opening many opportunities for cooperation in training, scientific research, innovation, and high-quality human resource development.

By sharing governance experience and exchanging development models, UEH continues to affirm its role as a multidisciplinary research university and a pioneer in governance innovation, ready to accompany higher education institutions in improving quality and operational effectiveness and in promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam's higher education system.
