UEH Welcomes Australian Minister for Education, Affirming its Role as a Strategic Partner in Vietnam-Australia Educational Cooperation

On December 10, 2025, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) was honored to welcome Mr. Jason Clare MP, the Australian Minister for Education, during his first official visit to Vietnam. The Minister also met with the student and alumni community of the joint programs between UEH and Western Sydney University. This is a significant milestone, affirming UEH's role in promoting the Vietnam-Australia bilateral educational partnership and the University's standing in the international education cooperation network.

The Australian Minister for Education's visit was not only a diplomatic gesture but also a direct recognition of the successful joint training model between UEH and Western Sydney University, Vietnam.

During the dialogue, Minister Jason Clare met and exchanged views with senior leaders from both institutions, including: Honorary Professor George Williams AO, Chancellor and President of Western Sydney University; Dr. Douglas Foster, Executive Vice President of Western Sydney University Vietnam; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung – UEH Interim President; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the UEH Development Strategy Council; along with faculty, alumni, and outstanding students.

17 Years of Sustainable Partnership between UEH and Western Sydney University Vietnam with Outstanding Results

The partnership between the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City and Western Sydney University has achieved impressive milestones, reflecting the effectiveness of UEH's educational internationalization strategy:

  • Over 3,000 graduates with international degrees;
  • Nearly 2,000 students currently enrolled in joint programs;
  • Over 500 students have transferred to study in Sydney, Australia;
  • A student retention rate of over 99%, which is among the best in higher education;
  • Graduates have a high employment rate at multinational corporations such as Samsung, Nike, Unilever, and Nestlé.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung, UEH Interim President, emphasized: "As one of Vietnam's key educational institutions, UEH has always identified its role as a knowledge bridge between Vietnam and our international partners, building sustainable cooperative relationships. Our partnership with Australian educational partners, including Western Sydney University, has always been a priority for the University, with a focus on innovation and comprehensiveness, aligned with our strategy to develop high-quality human resources and serve the nation's overall development."

Honorary Professor George Williams AO, Chancellor and President of Western Sydney University, stressed that the program's success stems from its student-centered approach. He also highly valued UEH's role in coordinating, ensuring academic quality, and supporting learners throughout the program's implementation.

"The most important element in this partnership is the students. The program's student retention rate is over 99%, a figure that any university in Australia would be incredibly proud of. We are not stopping there but continuously innovating. Specifically, starting next year, over 1,000 students will have the opportunity for practical experience at multinational corporations, giving them hands-on experience from their very first years of university," shared Honorary Professor George Williams.

Learner-Centricity – A Core Value in UEH's Training Strategy

A highlight of the event was a forum on the transformative impacts of international education. The joint programs with Western Sydney University have provided students with access to an international-standard learning environment right here in Vietnam, while also expanding opportunities for global study, experience, and career opportunities.

At the meeting, Minister Jason Clare listened to inspiring stories from faculty, alumni, and current students of the joint MBA Talent programs. Many alumni now hold management positions at multinational corporations, affirming the practical value and career competitiveness of the bilateral training program between UEH and Western Sydney University.

Mr. Le Hoang Long, Head of Retailer Vertical at NIQ Vietnam, stated: "The MBA Talent program gave me more than I ever expected. It was not just a foundation of knowledge and skills for personal and professional development but also a gateway to a valuable network and exclusive privileges for alumni."

Beyond academic excellence, UEH and its international partners also prioritize social responsibility through humane scholarship programs. A notable example is the full scholarship program for refugee and migrant students from Myanmar, which currently provides comprehensive support for tuition and living expenses for 11 students.

A particularly moving story shared at the event was that of Nan Su Wai Zin Htet Aung, a student who overcame adversity in a refugee camp in Thailand to become the first in her family to attend university and is now pursuing a master's degree. She expressed her determination: "I have always dreamed of becoming someone who can help others, especially the young people in the refugee camps. I want to return to my community to show them that there are still many opportunities ahead and that we can all achieve our goals."

The event concluded with a commitment to further strengthen educational cooperation between the two countries, expanding academic exchange, research, and training activities in the future.

Building on a proven cooperative foundation, UEH and Western Sydney University reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the scale of their training while ensuring quality, maintaining excellent indicators in student retention, teaching quality, and post-graduation employability. Concurrently, the University will continue to fulfill its social responsibility through deeply humane educational initiatives and by strengthening its growing international alumni network, contributing to a sustainable ecosystem that connects knowledge, careers, and social responsibility.
