On July 28 and 29, 2026, the College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG), University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) successfully hosted the 2026 International Conference on Economics, Law and Government (ELG 2026). The event welcomed hundreds of domestic and international scholars, researchers, lecturers, and policymakers to discuss and propose interdisciplinary solutions for sustainable development in the context of multiple transitions.

Overview of the ELG 2026 Conference
On the occasion of UEH's 50th anniversary, UEH-CELG brought to ELG 2026 a contemporary theme: “Systemic Sustainability: Analysis and Policy Design in the Age of Multiple Transitions.”
The event attracted numerous experts, scientists, and policymakers from organizations and universities across various countries. With 30 parallel sessions and 14 invited sessions, issues spanning economics, law, and public management were deliberated and exchanged, contributing to shaping interdisciplinary research mindsets.
One of the standout features of the ELG 2026 conference was the high-quality plenary sessions, providing perfect pieces for the policymaking puzzle:

Professor Serguei Maliar - Santa Clara University, USA; Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, presenting the topic “Artificial Intelligence Methods for Analyzing Dynamic Economic Models” at the morning plenary session on July 28

Associate Professor, Dr. Ermal Alfred Frasheri (Seoul National University) presenting the topic “Law as Architecture: Designing Systems for Sustainable Governance in an Age of Multiple Transitions” at the afternoon plenary session on July 28.

Professor Leonard Wantchekon, Princeton University, presenting the topic “Spatial Creative Destruction and Regional Development” at the morning plenary session on July 29.
Throughout the conference, the 30 parallel sessions and 14 invited sessions at ELG 2026 fostered a powerful intersection of knowledge across multiple fields.

Parallel discussion sessions at the Conference
Featuring 177 research papers carefully selected from over 260 submissions, along with 14 invited sessions from various domestic and international universities and institutes, the parallel sessions were vibrant and highly productive. Disciplinary boundaries were gradually dismantled as economists, legal experts, and public administration professionals gathered to discuss topics ranging from sustainable finance, data governance, and regional development to institutional reform. This multidimensionality ensured that the proposed solutions were closely aligned with the practical realities of developing nations.
To acknowledge the academic efforts and contributions of the research papers, the Organizing Committee presented two award categories: the CELG Best Paper Awards and the CELG Young Researcher Awards, aimed at encouraging the participation of young researchers under the age of 40.
The paper “Transnational Mental Health Costs of War” by authors Thang Dang, Jouni Helske, and Henri Salokangas, and the paper “The origins and evolution of the family in Vietnam” by authors Ha Dang, Hoang-Anh Ho, and Quang Nguyen have been rewarded as Best Paper Awards.

Dr. Tran Thi Tuan Anh, Vice Rector of UEH-CELG and Head of the ELG 2026 Organizing Committee, presenting the Best Paper Awards of the conference.
The paper “From Silos to Systems: Interdisciplinary legal architecture for sustainability in corporate value chains” by author Lam Bao Anh received the Young Researcher Award.

Assoc. Prof. Pham Khanh Nam, Head of the Department of Research, Development and Global Engagement, presenting the Young Researcher Award of the ELG 2026 conference.
Wrapping up the event, ELG 2026 not only oriented academic exchanges towards the practical issues facing Vietnam and developing economies but also contributed to expanding connections among domestic and international scientists. The success of the conference serves as a vital stepping stone to promote research collaboration, bringing scientific research findings closer to the policymaking and implementation processes in the new era.
