Joining the festive atmosphere of the nationwide opening day of school, on the morning of September 5, 2026, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) solemnly held the Opening Ceremony for the 2026–2027 Academic Year and the New Academic Year Meeting for Cohort 51 of Full-Time Undergraduate Students at B1.302 Auditorium. The event was connected live to the national broadcast of the "Opening Ceremony for the 2026–2027 Academic Year and Inauguration of Multi-Level Boarding Schools in Border Communes" organized by the Ministry of Education and Training. This academic year holds special significance as UEH looks forward to celebrating its 50th anniversary of establishment and development (1976–2026).
Attending the Opening Ceremony, on behalf of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and Students’ Association, was Mr. Nguyễn Đức Trung - Deputy Head of the Youth Union and Youth Affairs Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Youth Union, and Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Students’ Association of Ho Chi Minh City. On the UEH side, attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bùi Quang Hùng - President of UEH; Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Khắc Quốc Bảo - Vice President of UEH; Dr. Đinh Công Khải - Vice President of UEH; Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Đông Phong - Chairman of the UEH Development Strategy Council; Prof. Dr. Sử Đình Thành - Chairman, UEH Academic and Scientific Council, together with leaders of the member colleges, campuses, departments, schools, institutes and units of UEH. The programme was also attended by representatives of the Cohort 51 class committees at Hall B1.302 and Hall A - UEH Mekong, while all UEH students followed the ceremony online via the University’s official communication channels.

The programme opened with UEH leaders, staff and students following the National Opening Ceremony for the 2026 - 2027 academic year organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV1) and connected online to educational institutions nationwide. At UEH Campus B and UEH Mekong, UEH teachers and students shared in the joyful atmosphere of the occasion, officially beginning the new 2026 - 2027 academic year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bùi Quang Hùng - President of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City expressed his pride in UEH’s 50-year journey of building and development, from a solid foundation of internal strength to its standing as a public, nationally key university that is increasingly making its mark in the region and integrating deeply into the global academic system. Along that journey, UEH has become a pillar of knowledge, a place that nurtures the aspirations and pride of many generations of learners.
Addressing the students of Cohort 51 - the generation accompanying UEH at this 50-year milestone - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bùi Quang Hùng encouraged each student to take the initiative in shaping their own learning journey, to actively take part in scientific research, exchange programmes, academic activities and hands-on experiences; and to step boldly out of their comfort zone to broaden their connections with experts, businesses and international environments. As AI becomes ever more pervasive, students need to maintain independent thinking and the ability to verify information, use technology responsibly and uphold academic integrity; while proactively managing their study progress, meeting the required learning outcomes and choosing experiences that genuinely add value to their personal development.
On behalf of the leadership, lecturers and staff of UEH, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bùi Quang Hùng officially declared the 2026 - 2027 academic year open, wishing all students a new year full of energy, experience and success; while expressing the hope that generations of learners will continue to preserve and build on UEH’s values and together spread the ONE UEH spirit.

As part of the Cohort 51 start-of-year gathering, UEH provided important information to help students proactively map out their learning and development pathway at UEH, covering the second-degree programme, activities for learners, scientific research, international connections, hands-on experience and community contribution.
In addition, students were introduced to the UEH Multidisciplinary & Sustainable Strategy - 5 Years of Action, the notable results of the UEH Green Campus project, and the direction for building UEH Wellbeing - Flourishing University, working towards a green, sustainable university environment with holistic wellbeing. It was also an opportunity for students to learn about and take part in the activities leading up to the 50th anniversary of UEH’s establishment and development.

The Opening Ceremony for the 2026-2027 academic year marks the start of a new year at a special moment, as UEH approaches the 50th anniversary of its establishment and development. From 516 students in the first cohort in 1976 to a community of nearly 300,000 alumni today, each generation has helped enrich the values and identity of UEH.
Continuing that journey, today’s generations of learners will write new chapters together with UEH through knowledge, resilience, a spirit of innovation and responsibility to the community; spreading the ONE UEH spirit and contributing to a sustainable future.
