[UEH CONFERENCE 50] ELG 2026 International Conference Opens: From Multifaceted Transitions to the Challenge of Systemic Sustainability Policy Design

29 Jul, 2026

On July 28, 2026, the UEH College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG) officially opened the 2026 Annual International Conference on Economics, Law and Government (ELG 2026) under the theme "Systemic Sustainability: Analysis and Policy Design in the Age of Multiple Transitions." The conference focuses on the economic, legal, and policy challenges arising from the simultaneous transformations of digitalization, green transition, energy transition, and other major shifts.

The world is currently undergoing multiple large-scale transitions that are profoundly reshaping economies and societies. These include digital transformation driven by advances in artificial intelligence and data technologies; green and energy transitions in response to climate change and carbon reduction goals; demographic shifts such as population aging and migration; and new models of governance and legal frameworks.

These transitions do not occur in isolation but interact with one another, generating new development dynamics while simultaneously posing complex policy challenges.

The ELG 2026 conference addresses the concept of systemic sustainability, emphasizing that sustainability challenges must be understood and addressed within the broader context of tightly interconnected systems. Economic development, environmental protection, social welfare, technological innovation, and institutional governance are deeply interdependent. Changes in one domain often produce spillover effects across others. Therefore, achieving sustainability requires policies and analytical approaches that consider feedback loops, cross-sectoral interactions, and long-term systemic impacts, rather than treating issues in isolation.

Conference overview

The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Nguyen Dong Phong – Chairman of the UEH Strategic Development Council; Prof. Su Dinh Thanh – Chairman of the UEH Science and Training Council; Prof. Nguyen Trong Hoai – Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies; Dr. Tran Thi Tuan Anh – Vice Rector of the College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG); Assoc. Prof. Pham Khanh Nam – Head of the Department of Research – Development and Global Engagement; along with leadership from member schools, departments, and specialized faculties/institutes, as well as international speakers, scientists, experts, representatives from organizations, universities, research institutes, and a large number of lecturers, doctoral candidates, and students.

In his opening address, Prof. Su Dinh Thanh – Chairman of the UEH Science and Training Council – shared: "In parallel with the occasion of UEH's 50th anniversary, the ELG 2026 conference becomes part of the journey toward becoming a multidisciplinary university, with a focus on knowledge creation, human resource development, and social service. In a context where the world is simultaneously confronting digital transition, green transition, geopolitical uncertainty, and institutional reform, these challenges demand an interdisciplinary approach, connecting economists, legal scholars, policymakers, and researchers to jointly develop solutions for sustainable development.

Within the conference program, ELG 2026 features three plenary sessions offering perspectives on regional development, applications of artificial intelligence in economic model analysis, and the role of law in designing sustainable governance systems.

In addition, the conference brings together 177 selected research papers presented across 30 parallel sessions and 14 invited sessions over two days (July 28–29, 2026), with authors from multiple countries. Topics span green transition, sustainable finance, artificial intelligence, data governance, regional development, and institutional reform, approached from multidisciplinary perspectives rather than isolated by discipline.

To recognize outstanding academic contributions, two awards – the CELG Best Paper Awards and the CELG Young Researcher Paper Awards – will be presented to exemplary works, encouraging participation from the next generation of researchers, particularly those under 40 years of age.
