THE Rankings 2026: UEH Leads Vietnamese Universities, Continues to Hold Position in Top 501-600 Worldwide

10 Oct, 2025

According to the Times Higher Education 2026 World University Rankings (THE), the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) continues to hold its position in the Top 501-600 universities worldwide, leading Vietnamese universities and affirming its 50-year development journey built on internal strength.

On October 9, 2025, the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking organization officially announced the results of the 2026 World University Rankings (THE World University Rankings 2026) with the participation of nearly 2,200 higher education institutions from 115 countries and territories, a record high figure that is 2.6 times greater than a decade ago, demonstrating the increase in research capacity and internationalization in higher education today.

Among the 11 Vietnamese representatives featured in the THE 2026 rankings, UEH continues to hold the highest position, ranked in the 501-600 university group worldwide (maintaining last year's ranking, when UEH first appeared in this ranking and also ranked first among 9 Vietnamese representatives in 2025).

Thus, UEH's maintenance of its position in the 501-600 group in this year's rankings represents a tremendous effort to elevate the quality and academic reputation of Vietnam and the region to a global level.

UEH leads Vietnamese universities, and continues to hold its position in the 501-600 university group worldwide according to THE Rankings 2026

This achievement is also evidence of UEH's 50-year journey of development through internal strength across all operational dimensions:

(1) Training that continuously transforms for social needs: Training human resources for national reconstruction (1975-1976), Training the foundational generation of human resources for "Renovation" (1977-2000), Training key national human resources (2001-2010), Training human resources for international integration (2011-2020), Training Glo-cal Human resources: Global thinking, local action (2021-2025).
(2) Research from efforts toward international publication to community-serving research: Applied research serving national construction and development (1975-2010), Promoting academic research with international publications (2011-2020), Advancing research excellence linked to multidisciplinary training (2021-2025).
(3) Governance from the early days of takeover to the milestone of autonomous transformation, digital transformation, and sustainable development, leading the modern university governance model in Vietnam.
(4) Operations from circular campuses to green universities: From 3 campuses in the period 1975-2010, UEH now has 13 campuses in Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Long, and Nha Trang, modernized according to the green university model.
(5) Community engagement serving society together: Closely connecting with localities, enterprises, and learners to create sustainable impact for the entire society.

This achievement also serves as motivation for UEH to continue rapidly implementing key strategic initiatives for the period 2025-2030, including:

Initiative "Elevating UEH Faculty Quality - Top 250 Asia"
Initiative "Building an International Academic Ecosystem at UEH"
Initiative "Strengthening Scientific Research Capacity, International Publications, Science and Technology Transfer, Product Commercialization"
Initiative "Training High-Quality Human Resources with Internationalization, Practical Integration, Multidisciplinary Integration, Digital Transformation, and Sustainability at UEH"
Initiative "UEH City University Hub"

Initiative "Modernizing Technical Infrastructure and Facilities, Effective Governance, Sustainable Finance"

From here, UEH aims to successfully implement its strategy to become a multidisciplinary, multi-field, and sustainably-acting university among the Top 250 leading universities in Asia by 2030, reaching the Top 100 in Asia by 2045.

THE is one of the largest ranking organizations in the world today, alongside QS, Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), and Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

The ranking results are based on data collected and independently surveyed by the organization, combined with information submitted by educational institutions. The conditions for institutions are that they must teach at the undergraduate level, conduct research in multiple fields, and have published at least 1,000 research papers during the period 2020-2024.

THE has 18 evaluation criteria divided into 5 groups: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook. Each group of criteria has a weight ranging from 4% to 30%, with the highest being research quality.
