LIVING LAB UEH ZERO WASTE CAMPUS: Summary of “The Story of Rubbish” Content Creation Competition

After 2 weeks “The Story of Rubbish” Competition in UEH Zero Waste Campus Project took place, students are brought with new lenses related to current environmental pollution facts. With 263 submissions in total, spreading to 15 media channels on Facebook and TikTok platforms, this competition has approached more than 20000 internal-and-external-UEH students helping spread great values in terms of a Green lifestyle, Zero Waste to the community.

The Story of Rubbish Content Creation Competition” was affiliated with  “UEH Zero Waste Campus” Project in the process of communication identifying present environmental issues related to rubbish. The competition initiated opportunities for attending students to freely create content for “The Story of Rubbish”, environmental issues, green lifestyle and so on being communication products, raising personal perspectives on rubbish problems surrounding our living environment, helping spread messages and positive meanings.

With meaningful message-spreading videos in terms of  environment protection awareness, the competition received great concerns from students from UEH and other universities in Ho Chi Minh City. Within 10-day competition, the organizers recognized 263 submissions based on two modalities:individual and group. The impressive figures illustrated students’ concerns regarding awareness of protecting our surrounding living environment. Besides, the organizers selected the 3 most impressive submissions:

Awarded individuals and groups in each category of the competition are listed as follows:

 Individual Prizes:

  • First Prize: Nguyen Phuc Minh Thuy

The submission is a story about the thought of two fishes living distantly in the ocean - Anny and Tony.. The conversation of the two fish reflected partially severe consequences from human littering actions to the ocean. Those actions do not only contaminate the ecosystem but affect our lives as well. Therefore, these two fishes would like to send us a message on raising our awareness as well as taking true actions to protect the ocean environment.

  • Second Prize: Tran Trieu Vy

The submission is a story about the journey of plastic bottles from their manufacture to recycling to newerand more useful products for human lives (pencil cases, decorators and so on) but are not rubbish polluting anymore.

  • Third Prize: Le Thi Mai Huong

The submission is about the talk of “Hoang tu nhua” (The Plastic Prince) with his mother’s advice that: after accomplishing human-serving missions, he would be regenerated and live in a new shape. However, the fact is hostile and contrary to his mother’s previous advice, “The Plastic Prince” has to share a similar fate with other brothers: being a waste, a useless object in the spacious ocean. As a result, “The Plastic Prince”, on behalf of the rubbish brothers, sends to humans a message: Let’s join hands to protect the environment, our lovely Earth, and recycle the rubbish so as not to make them as “bad guys” in human eyes anymore.

  • 3 Consolation Prizes: Ho My Thu; Nguyen Huynh Ngoc Thao; Nguyen Bao Trung

Group Prizes:

School with the highest number of submissions: School of Accounting - 52 videos

  • School with the second-highest number of submissions: School of International Business - Marketing - 34 videos
  • School with the third-highest number of submissions: School of Management - 27 videos
  • School with the highest number of interactions: School of Accounting – 3,765 interactions

Coming to “The Story of Rubbish” competition, students have spread messages and “green” activities to everyone, contributing partially to protecting the environment towards greener - cleaner - more beautiful.
