International Conference IASC-ARS 2025: A Forum on Computational Statistics, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence in Asia

06 Dec, 2025

From December 3rd to 6th, 2025, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) hosted the 13th International Conference of the International Association for Statistical Computing – Asian Regional Section (IASC-ARS 2025). The event, co-organized by the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) and the UEH College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG-UEH), is part of the series of activities leading up to UEH's 50th anniversary (1976-2026).

The conference brought together scholars, statisticians, data scientists, AI experts, and quantitative researchers from Asia, Europe, the United States, and Australia

Attending the event from UEH were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung – UEH Interim President; Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – Chairman of the UEH Science and Training Council; along with leaders from member colleges, departments, and schools.

Delegates included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Minh Ha – Executive Director of VIASM, and Prof. Donguk Kim – Chairman of IASC-ARS (2023–2025).

The conference featured 44 parallel discussion sessions with a total of 169 research papers presented by statisticians from around the world, reflecting the depth and breadth of research topics in statistical computing, machine learning, big data, and applied fields. The papers covered a diverse spectrum of scientific topics, highlighting cutting-edge developments in computational statistics, data science, artificial intelligence, and their interdisciplinary applications.

The 13th IASC-ARS Conference welcomed three leading speakers in statistical research and teaching:

  • Prof. Chun-houh Chen (Academia Sinica, Taiwan) – President of IASC (2023–2025): President of the International Association for Statistical Computing (IASC), an expert in Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA), Data Visualization, and Smart Health.
  • Prof. Jianqing Fan (Princeton University, USA): A member of Academia Sinica and a distinguished expert in Financial Econometrics, Big Data, and Statistical Machine Learning, with numerous prestigious international awards.
  • Assoc. Prof. Tran Minh Ngoc (University of Sydney, Australia): A leading researcher in Applied Probability & Statistics in Australia, specializing in Bayesian Computation and the integration of Quantum Computing into data analysis.

Other parallel sessions at the conference

Prior to the main event, on December 3, 2025, two short courses were held for PhD candidates and young scholars. These courses, led by world-renowned experts, provided young researchers with access to advanced methodologies: Prof. Rong Chen (Rutgers University) on "Introduction to Nonlinear Time Series," and Prof. Fabrizio Ruggeri (President of ISI) on "Introduction to Markov Chain Monte Carlo for Bayesian Computation."

Short courses for PhD candidates and young scholars

A poster session also attracted active participation from PhD candidates, young scholars, and new research groups, creating an open academic space for professional exchange, direct feedback from experts, and the expansion of international cooperation networks.

In addition to the professional activities from December 3-5, 2025, delegates will visit the Cu Chi Tunnels on December 6, 2025—a significant historical site in Vietnam—to explore the nation's rich culture and history, offering a unique experience for international scholars.

About IASC - International Association for Statistical Computing

The International Association for Statistical Computing (IASC) is an international organization affiliated with the International Statistical Institute (ISI), founded in 1976 with a mission to foster the connection between statistics and computer science, and developing modern statistical computational methods and tools for scientific research and practical application. It brings together statisticians, data scientists, machine learning experts, researchers, and IT professionals from around the world.

About the IASC-ARS Conference Series

The IASC-ARS Conference Series is the flagship scientific event of the IASC-ARS. The first annual conference was held in Beijing in 1993, and a total of 12 annual conferences have since been held in various locations, including South Korea, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and New Zealand..

Over three decades, the series has become a leading forum for disseminating the latest research in computational statistics, data science, and quantitative methods; fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, among scholars, experts, businesses, and policymakers; supporting young researchers through report sessions, mentoring activities, and workshops; and contributing to the formation of a dynamic data science network in the region. With keynote lectures, invited sessions, contributed sessions, short courses, and scientific networking activities, the IASC-ARS conference series consistently plays a role as a driving force for innovation in statistics and computing.
