Conference for all UEH officials and employees: The role of the UEH team for a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University

On November 18, 2022, the Party Committee, the University Council, and the Board of Management of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) solemnly organized the Conference for all UEH officials and employees with the theme "The role of the UEH Team for a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University". This was a forum to exchange, listen to, and share ideas from UEH teachers, officials, and employees to get ready for the future of a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University.

Taking place within the framework of UEH Day 2022, the Conference for all UEH officers and employees with the theme "The Role of the UEH Team for a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University" was the most important activity for all UEH officials and employees. There, each UEHer listened to the mission, vision, and strategic directions of the Multidisciplinary and Sustainable development of UEH from the sharing of the University's leadership. Thence, together we understood, lighted up the spirit of pride, desired to contribute and be ready to shape the next important steps. In particular, the conference was an open space for each UEH member to freely contribute ideas, initiatives, and individual and unit roles for the development of UEH in the new era.

The conference was attended by: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council; Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - President; Dr. Bui Quang Hung - Vice President; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Vice President; Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Vice President; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet - Chairwoman of the Strategic and Policy Advisory Council. Along with them are the leaders of UEH Member Colleges, leaders of departments, training institutes, centers, and branches, and the presence of nearly 800 teachers, who are lecturers, officials, and employees of UEH; And the attendance of guest delegates - Mr. Samuel Ang - Director of QS Asia.

Understanding the orientation and development strategy of UEH in the upcoming period

After more than a year of embarking on the restructuring journey with the strategy of becoming a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University, UEH has obtained encouraging and proud achievements. The solid foundation built over the past 46 years, along with the determination and solidarity of the current generation, is the abundant energy source that drives the substantial transformation of UEH. With important and strategic development orientations in the upcoming period, UEH will definitely continue to need the unanimity and cooperation of teachers, officials, and employees to be ready to pioneer, innovate and inspire everyone for a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable UEH.

Speaking at the opening of the program, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council shared with the entire Conference the mission, vision, and orientations of UEH in the journey ahead: "In order to continue to change to develop, meet the requirements of the industrial age 4.0, meeting the requirements of deeper international integration, UEH has carried out organizational and operational restructuring from the University of Economics to become the multidisciplinary and sustainable UEH. We strive for a strong University, not a big University according to the subjective opinion of the leader. With a vision to 2030, UEH is a Multidisciplinary University with an academic and sustainable reputation in the Asia region with the stated mission of (1) Raising the level of knowledge, and contributing to the spread of knowledge, inclusive education, and values for all; (2) Training high-quality human resources at undergraduate and graduate levels, meeting the domestic and global labor market; (3) Globalization and knowledge transfer, internationalization and integration into the world university community, knowledge transfer for domestic, regional and global development activities; (4) Pioneering innovation and creativity to build competitive advantages through constant innovation and knowledge creation in training and scientific research and consulting; (5) Serving the community of provinces, economic regions, and the whole country. With the above vision and mission, UEH trains graduates with excellent expertise and good communication skills in Vietnamese and English; graduates are global citizens empowered in thinking, performance, and action for the prosperity of Vietnam. They are good experts, competent and qualified managers to meet the needs of the country's development and towards the global market. They are equipped with the ability to meet demand no matter how the market changes. The efforts and consensus of UEHers will create the strength of unity and determine the success of UEH.”

In order to realize the above visions and orientations, the President - Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh emphasized: “In the upcoming period, the key strategies for UEH Multidisciplinary and Sustainable development include: (1) Reinventing UEH structure into a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University with high internationalization in terms of training, scientific research, operation, administration, and community connection; (2) Training high-quality human resources to meet international integration requirements in order to enhance the distinctiveness of UEH training programs, focusing on developing core values of UEH graduates to be ready for working and be socially conscious, global citizen, change agent and lifelong learner; (3) Enhancing the quality of research, technology development, innovation, and interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge transfer with the aim of making meaningful impacts through solving challenging issues of sustainable development of the Region; (4) Improving academic reputation, UEH's international ranking according to the goal to 2025, UEH will be in the 400-500 group in the QS-A University Rankings, by 2030 in the 1000 group of the THE world’s University Rankings”.

President - Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh shared about UEH’s development strategy

Within the framework of the conference, Mr. Samuel Ang - Director of QS Asia organization awarded the Certificate to UEH and congratulated UEH for officially entering the top 401+ best universities in Asia (according to QS Asia University Rankings 2023) an increase of 150 steps compared to 2021, early completion of one of the key goals set out for the period 2026 - 2030.

In addition, recently, the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES) has achieved a Citescore Citation Index of 5.0 in the Scopus category. With this high index, JABES is expected to be ranked at the 85th percentile in the group of Economics - Business - Finance. These achievements are an important launch pad for UEH's next 10-year journey, aiming to become a Research-oriented Multidisciplinary, and Sustainable University with a strong position in the region and the world by 2030.

Open space for ideas and initiatives for UEH's Multidisciplinary and Sustainable strategy

The journey to becoming a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University is a challenging journey with many hardships ahead, to reach the destination, each UEHer is required to be aware of their role so that they can join hands and work together with practical actions and high determination to contribute to the overall success of UEH.

At the conference, representatives of UEH teachers, officials, and employees had practical sharing for UEH's Multidisciplinary and Sustainable strategy.

As the longest-standing lecturer still teaching at the university (45 years), having witnessed many revolutionary changes in UEH, Prof. Dr. Teacher of the People Vo Thanh Thu represented the teaching staff by sharing and spreading enthusiasm with the theme "Pioneering innovation - Connecting generations - Spreading passion". She emphasized: “Going through many years with UEH, as an elderly lecturer, I wish to spread the fire of enthusiasm to the young generation of UEHer today: Let's overcome difficulties to study, research, teach well, especially let's live well so that from UEH to positively impact thousands and tens of thousands of students, contributing to building a powerful, civilized and positive Vietnam."

Besides, on behalf of the staff/employees of the management division, MSc. Le Thi Hanh An - Department of Marketing and Communication also had meaningful sharing about the role of officials in the Multi-sectoral and Sustainability strategy. “I used to ask myself the question “What is the sustainability of the Multidisciplinary and Sustainable UEH?” And I think today I found the answer. It must be from a group that unites our love and faith for UEH” - MSc. Hanh An shared.

Awarding the decision of UEH Vice President for the term 2020 - 2025 and honoring Associate Professor in 2022

In order to lead UEH forward, in addition to a good strategy, the united team also needs to promote the processes of people, professional skills, and professional knowledge, at the same time, gradually improving the organizational structure and leadership team. With that spirit, in the solemn atmosphere of the Conference, UEH officially announced and awarded the decision to appoint 2 UEH Vice Presidents for the 2020 - 2025 term to Assoc. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao and Dr. Dinh Cong Khai; and honored the title of Associate Professor in 2022 including Assoc. Pham Khanh Nam - Vice President of UEH College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG); Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Van Cuong - Lecturer at School of Public Finance (CELG); Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Phuong Thao - Deputy Director of the Institute of International Training; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Huynh Trang - Lecturer of the School of Foreign Languages.

The conference for all UEH officials and employees with the theme "The Role of the UEH Team for a Multidisciplinary and Sustainable University" took place successfully in an atmosphere of joy and pride. Through this, a spirit of "Pioneering innovation - Connecting generations - Spreading passion" will continue to be molded and spread strongly in each UEHer to jointly build the pillar of "sustainable trust" in the transformation journey in the next 10 years.
