30th Anniversary Celebration Program of the Vietnam National Union of Students – University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City: “Steadfast Progress – Reaching Further”

To commemorate a significant milestone in the development of the UEH Student Union, the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Vietnam National Union of Students – University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (May 18, 1995 – May 18, 2025) was successfully held on May 18, 2025 at Hall B1.302, UEH – 279 Nguyen Tri Phuong. This occasion provided an opportunity for the UEH Student Union to express gratitude to the University’s esteemed leaders and generations of UEH Union and Association officials, while also marking the beginning of a new journey to further uphold the proud and noble traditions of the Union.

In attendance at the anniversary program, the UEH Student Union was honored to welcome leaders from the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union – Vietnam National Union of Students, Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor: Comrade Ngo Minh Hai – Secretary of the City Youth Union – President of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Federation; Comrade Tran Doan Trung – Standing Vice President of the City Federation of Labor. From the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), the event was graced by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council; Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – President of UEH; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Hung – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of UEH, Former Secretary of the UEH Youth Union; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao – Vice President of UEH; Dr. Nguyen Thien Duy – President of the UEH Trade Union, Former Secretary of the Youth Union, Former President of the UEH Student Union, First Term; Dr. Thai Kim Phung – Vice Rector, UEH College of Technology and Design; Dr. Tran Thi Tuan Anh – Vice Rector, UEH College of Economics, Law and Government; MSc. Ho Thien Quyen – Deputy Director, UEH Mekong. Also present were leaders of departments, offices, faculties, and institutes within and under UEH. The program was further honored by the presence of former Secretaries of the Youth Union, former Presidents of the Student Union, former full-time staff of the Union – Association Office, and a large number of generations of UEH Union – Association officials from various periods.

Overview of the program

At the opening of the Anniversary Program, Comrade Nguyen Huu Tien – Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union, President of the UEH Student Union, delivered the opening remarks, recalling the proud history of the UEH Student Union – one of the first formally and officially established Student Unions in Ho Chi Minh City. He expressed deep gratitude to the leaders of the City Youth Union, Vietnam National Union of Students, UEH leadership, and especially to generations of UEH Union – Association officials. Nguyen Huu Tien emphasized that the UEH Student Union will remain a pioneering force, accompanying the university in building a better future for learners, acting for interdisciplinary knowledge and sustainable development through concrete and practical goals. At the same time, the Union will be a companion to its members and UEH students on their journey of self-improvement, meeting the ever-increasing demands of the labor market and the changing times.

On behalf of the Party Committee and the University Executive Board, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council, extended congratulations on the 30-year milestone of the UEH Student Union’s formation and development. He affirmed that UEH always supports and facilitates the Union’s activities, placing trust in the Union’s vigorous growth and positive contributions to the overall development of UEH.

The UEH Student Union also had the opportunity to express profound gratitude through gifts presented to the UEH student leaders – former Presidents of the UEH Student Union across different periods. This was a heartfelt expression of thanks to those leaders who have inspired and spread the spirit of the movement throughout the 30 years of the Union’s formation and development.

Continuing the journey of connection and development for generations of UEH Union – Association officials and UEH students, the Alumni Liaison Committee for communities once affiliated with UEH was officially launched at the program. This is not only a bridge linking alumni with the university, but also a platform for collaboration in meaningful activities – from supporting UEH students and spreading the spirit of sharing to connecting the UEHer community everywhere.

At this special and memorable moment, generations of UEH Union – Association officials participated in an interactive activity on the 30th Anniversary Website, creating a moment where the past, present, and future converged. All faculty and officials of the UEH Union – Association across generations contributed their connections to weave a giant sail for the UEH Student Union’s ship to reach further.
