1975

Established

1975 – 1976
  • 1975 - 1976: Taking over the Saigon University of Law, a member of University of Saigon located at 17 Duy Tan st (currently named Pham Ngoc Thach st), which is current UEH main campus.
  • 1976: Official University Establishment Decision (1976)
  • 10/1976: The University of Finance Accounting Ho Chi Minh City was established as the 2nd campus of the University of Finance Accounting Hanoi in Ho Chi Minh City
  • 27/10/1976: UEH was founded, directly under the Ministry of Universities and Professional Secondary Education on the basis of control from the Saigon University of Law of the University of Saigon

1977

Built

1977 – 1985
  • 3/1977: First President of UEH: Professor Nguyen Tan Lap (1977 - 1988)
  • 1981: First class of Cambodian international students
  • 1981: First class of part-time undergraduate students
  • 18/11/1983: UEH and the Institute of Economics - Finance Leningrad signed the first Agreement on Friendship and International Cooperation

1986

“Đổi mới” & Development

1986 – 2000
  • 1987: The first University Council of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City was established with 25 members
  • 1988: Associate Professor Dao Cong Tien was appointed as President of UEH
  • 15/10/1988: The Council of Ministers (Government) officially established the University of Finance Accounting Ho Chi MInh City, under the Ministry of Finance and appointed Associate Professor Vo Thanh Hieu as the University President (term 1988 - 1993) and Professor Nguyen Thanh Tuyen as University President (term 1994 - 1996)
  • 27/1/1995: The Prime Minister established Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh CIty, University of Finance Accounting Ho Chi Minh City and Faculty of Economics of the University of Ho Chi Minh City were merged to Vietnam National University - Hochiminh City
  • 9/7/1996: University of Economics of Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City was established
  • International relations flourished, UEH went into partnerships with prestigious world universities
  • 10/10/2000: Official detachment of the University of Economics from the Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City, officially became the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) under Ministry of Education and Training

2001

Reputation Enhancement

2001 – 2010
  • 27/10/2001: On UEH's 25th anniversary, the university was awarded Third Class Order of Independence Medal from the President
  • 24/1/2002: Associate Professor Pham Van Nang was appointed President of UEH (2002 - 2011)
  • 2003: UEH was one of five public universities to be granted financial autonomy
  • 2006: On its 30th anniversary, UEH was awarded the prestigious title of Hero of Labor
  • 5/1/2010: International School of Business (ISB) was founded
  • 2010: UEH was awarded Second-Class Order of Independence Medal

2011

Autonomy & Internationalization

2011 – 2020
  • 2014: UEH became the first Vietnamese public university to have complete governance autonomy
  • 2014: UEH leads in advanced training programs development and global integration
  • 2014: Issuing policies promoting international publications and applied research for the national economy
  • 2014: UEH in the Top 1000 Best Business Schools in the world by Eduniversal
  • 2016 - present: U-Multirank Ranking continuously named UEH in the Top 25 Best Universities in the world contributing to lifelong career development
  • 2018: Eduniversal Ranking named UEH in the Top 100 Best Master's Programs in the world
  • 4/12/2019: University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh Long Campus was established
  • 16/6/2020: UEH established and began implementation of technology integration in training and research
  • UEH Campus B at 279 Nguyen Tri Phuong received campus-wide renovation
  • 2020: UEH recognized as one of the public universities with the most prestigious international publication in Vietnam
  • 2020: UEH established University Council per the new Law on Higher Education
  • 2020: Phase 1 of UEH Nguyen Van Linh Campus Construction completed

2021

Toward UEH University

2021
  • 2021: Top 551+ Best Universities in Asia (QS Asia University Rankings 2022)
  • 2021: UEH restructuring into the multidisciplinary University
  • 2021: UEH celebrated 45th Anniversary of establisment and development, launching new logo and a new vision of the Multidisciplinary and Sustainable UEH University
  • 2021: UEH honored to be granted the First-Class Medal of Independence
